Laws, Signs, & Sweets – April 2019

We discovered quickly that Singapore is an orderly and tidy country. Drivers are polite while obeying traffic laws, metro riders move on and off the trains in an organized way, and litter is no where to be found. This is no small feat with 6 million people living in 278 square miles.
Humorous, but true
Laws– In order for residents and visitors to understand the lawful and orderly culture, many signs are posted and indicator lights flash so all people can readily comply and understand the consequences (often fines) for ignoring the laws. We didn’t see many police officers during our four days in Singapore, but we were still hesitant to even jay walk for fear of having to pay a fine.

Signs– Restaurants, shopping malls and the metro system post many, many informational signs to keep the public informed. Some signs were quite clever.

Sweets– Since chocolate is a very important part of our diet, we always look for unique chocolate candy when we visit a country. We were quite surprised to find the Kit Kat Chocolatory in the VivoCity Mall. This store specializes in customizing Kit Kat bars with extra flavors and textures. Unfortunately we did not purchase any of the unique chocolates. However, it was very interesting to see all the options, how the custom candy bars were created, and the behavior and reactions of the customers. Some tourists purchased 5+ boxes of the rather expensive Kit Kats!
This combination looked tasty. Labor intensive sweets
We could have a clean country except here no rules or laws.
