Water Birds, Etc. – May 2021

West Coast National Park, covering 32,000 hectares, was our first stop on a month-long autumn road trip in South Africa.  During our three-day visit, we saw many varieties of water and land birds. But, not surprisingly, we did not observe all of the 250 species that live in or migrate to the park.

We stopped at Abrahamskraal Birdhide multiple times.

Many of the birds we spotted near our cottage were small and flighty.

We saw only a few four-legged creatures during our three days in the park and were not quite quick enough to get a photo of the mongoose. While driving on the paved and unpaved roads we passed by a mole snake and a yellow Cape cobra. Sadly, no pictures of those critters either.

Serene coastal and inland landscapes

We often include sunset photos in our posts. But, since the sunrise was so beautiful on the morning we left West Coast National Park, we selected these pictures instead.
