Spring SANPark Snaps (Part 2 of 2) – August & September 2022
Part 1 of this post features photos of our time in Tankwa Karoo National Park, Augrabies Falls National Park, and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
Part 2 includes fun memories from Mokala National Park, Karoo National Park, and Agulhas National Park.
Mokala National Park – The regeneration of specific animal species is the focus of MNP. And we saw a wide variety of mammals and birds on our second visit, including quite a few baby antelopes and rhinos.
Karoo National Park – A highlight of our 3rd visit was watching the Verraux’s eagles soar through the canyon at Rooivalle viewpoint. The park is home to over 20 pairs of these large birds.
Grey heron antics
During previous visits we put forth extra effort to see the park’s lions. We noted where lions were listed on the sightings boards and a park ranger even told us of a lion on a nearby road just an hour or so earlier. But the big cats always eluded us. Fortunately on the last day of this visit to KNP we finally saw one! He was enjoying a morning nap in the sunshine not too far from the normally motorized and automatic gate to the rest camp. During this visit guests had to get out of their cars to manually open the gate.
A very busy male southern masked weaver at the rest camp’s bird hide.
Agulhas National Park – We stayed two nights in a park chalet, so we had lots of time to explore the coastline and hike the Two Oceans Trail.
So many spring flowers along the trail!
